A Change To Reality

A Change to Reality

Coping with COVID-19-related stress as a student

It was just the beginning of this year when I had enrolled in Seneca’s Journalism program. Things were going well and couldn’t I bother thinking about anything negative. Believe it or not, events around the world leading and going into this year have been mind boggling! Facing reality we are facing a worldly pandemic crisis and that has affected our daily lifestyles and decisions(considering the fact that we have to be very cautious where and what we do).

Entering the second semester doing online classes has been very hard mentally and physically. The cancellation of in person classes right near the end of the semester, to a three week break then a sudden lockdown of self-isolation is a challenging one. Moreover, I was trying to get a job right before this all happened so it has caused some financial hardships for me.

Journalism is a program that requires the full hands on experience with equipment and lessons from teachers in the field. I was in the rhythm of learning to use equipment and it was actually very fun but now we can’t have access to use the equipment we need.

Coping with covid-19 initially wasn’t easy but I’ve found ways to make the best out of the situation. With gyms closed exercising at home has made me sweat out the frustrations of staying home. Also, I’ve learned new stuff such as learning to cook and video calling friends. Staying at home all the time has also made me somewhat closer to my family since everyone is around.

Hopefully, this virus can go away and we can resume our normal lives.
