BALANCING MY LIFE FROM MY BEDROOM

Is it Monday? Is it Thursday? Is it the Weekend? The bigger question is, does it really matter?

The days are too blurred that I rely on CTV’s Your Morning to remind me the day of the week. Every day at 8:30am they use a bright graphic with delightful music, with the text reading “It’s Monday!”.

I’m one of the lucky ones working from home and taking the opportunity with a grain of salt. On one hand, I am still able to make a living. As a YU START Student Coordinator at York University, I am now learning how to execute interactive, virtual events from my bedroom, partake in team building activities through video calls and conduct campus tours with Zoom’s Virtual Backgrounds.

On the other hand, my work and personal life is blending into one. For someone that loves a work-life balance, I am internally battling the frustration when my colleagues are lurking into my bedroom, which has now turned into a makeshift office.

Work and school are now extremely flexible. I can choose when I want to work or complete assignments. There’s no structure – one thing I’ve learned that I need.

Creating structure and a routine stimulates my brain. I feel motivated, productive and most importantly, sane. Although I am able to work and complete assignments at which ever hours, I try my best to keep my days consistent. I’m also scheduling in “me” time which comprises of either exercising, relaxing or do nothing.

The day of the week may no longer matter, but what you put into it certainly does.
