Zach Edey, a 7-foot-4, 300-pound center for Purdue basketball, is a favourite to win the Michael Naismith National Player of the year trophy. Edey has already proven himself a top NBA prospect and was named to the Big Ten team of the year for the 2022-23 season. The NCAA basketball tournament, dubbed March Madness, is attended by 24 Canadians this year. Canadians have had great news for March Madness this year, with 19 schools qualifying. Among the 24 Canadians, five are Toronto-born, Xavier Lee, a first-year player for the Princeton Tigers, is expected to play a significant role
With a 60 percent field-goal percentage, Zach Edey averages over 20 points and 13 rebounds this season. Along with his skills with the ball, Edey is a great leader who motivates not only himself but also his teammates. It seems to be doing something, with Purdue basketball being the number-one team in the country with a record of 29 wins and 5 losses.
Edey, a Toronto native, began playing hockey, but being tall prompted him to switch over to basketball. He could become the third Boilermaker to win a national player of the year award, along with a March Madness trophy if Edey continues his impressive season. It’s just five years ago when Zach Edey discovered a passion for the game of basketball truly the big man has a bright future.

Recently, Zach Edey dominated a recent game with 32 points and 14 rebounds. Leading the number one seed in the East Region the Purdue Boilermakers will take on the winner of the Texas Southern and Fairleigh Dickinson game that takes place tomorrow on TSN.
