Seneca Sting women’s basketball team played Durham Lords women’s basketball team on Tuesday January 17th, 2023 at 6pm Eastern Time, At Seneca Newnham Campus, Seneca really came out hard the first half as they were up 12 after the first two quarters of play. Although what happened in the second half is completely different. Durham started playing more harder on defense and offense. They did this by playing tighter defense not allowing Seneca to make the plays they want to and on offence were moving the ball quicker. In the third quarter Durham outscored Seneca 30-13 in the quarter. Seneca ended up coming up short with a loss of 72-59. It was a really tough loss for Seneca tonight as they really wanted tonight to continue their winning streak but it has now ended at 2 games. Durham going into this game was second in the OCAA with a record of 7 wins and 1 loss. Seneca going into this game was fifth in the OCAA standings with a 3 wins and 5 losses record.
Durham’s coach Sherlon Chance said this “that the players to watch out for tonight are #4 Shay Lttmann and #11 Tianna Leveridge said they were probably their best players”. It was a really hard fought game tonight with Seneca having a really good first half playing some great defense and really keeping the Durham offense at bay. They were doing really well at crashing the boards and not turning over the ball a lot. Seneca were being more efficient than Durham’s offense was with their shooting. Tianna did also lead the way for Seneca with 17 points which is a great game for her as she averages 12.9 points a game. She finished 6 of 16 from the field. Durham really started to play tighter defense and let Seneca not have much room to do their good plays that they wanted to do. Durham really played well in the later stages of the game and dominated the 3rd and 4th quarter. Although Seneca did also look really good in the first and second quarter. Durham was missing a couple of players tonight as well which really did not help them but were still able to get the job done, So that they can move to a record of 8 wins and 1 loss. Brianna Morrison led Durham’s offense tonight with a team high of 28 points also being 11 of 24 shooting from the field goal range. Following up was Emily Glendinning with 21 points as well. She went 8 of 12 shooting from the field and 5 of 8 shooting from 3 point range. Assistant Coach of Seneca Coach Kwame Obeng said “that he felt that even though the team had 8 rookies and only a couple of third and second year players that he felt that they were bonding great as a team and thinks that they have one of the best defenses in the OCAA”.
