Black Panther star Angela Bassett writes history as Marvel’s first acting Oscar nomination

Oscar Nominations for 2023 are out and a wide variety of cinematic masterpieces are catered for this year’s Oscar.

Angela Bassett has made history by being nominated for Oscars 2023 in the category: Best supporting actress for her role in the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” She is the first and only actress from Marvel to get an Oscar nomination. Not only this, but she is also the fourth Black woman in Oscar history to be nominated for multiple honours. She was previously nominated for her role as Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to do With It?” in 1994.

Everything Everywhere All at Once“, a movie about a Chinese-American immigrant who connects with parallel universe versions of herself to save the world, led the nominations list. Starting from editing, and screenplay to acting and costume designs, the movie bagged 11 nominations in total.

 

 

A World War 1 epic, “All Quiet on the Western Front” and the Irish Civil War movie “The Banshees of Inisherin” followed scoring nine nominations. “Elvis” and “The Fabelmans” also pulled several nominations.

Domee Shi’s Turning Red, set in Toronto is against “Puss in Boots: the last wish“, “Marcell The Shell With Shoes On“, “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio” and fellow Canadian director Chris Williams’ “The Sea Beast” in the category: Animated Feature Film.

Avatar: The Way of Water

James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” bagged four nominations for its phenomenal technological achievements. The movie has now made over $2 Billion in worldwide grosses, as reported by Deadline.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 95th Academy Awards on March 12.
