Mini-Mid Rise Toronto Shift 2021 Project

The selected mini-midrise project by shift 2021 seeks and adresses the challenge of accommodate this  building design in small properties on the main streets of Toronto such as Bloor, Dundas, Queen and College. Creating rights of way of 20 meters. And some buildings in Danforth, St. Clair and Eglinton among others according to The City of Toronto that has studied mid-rise buildings  are appropriate places to build mid-rise developers.

But have you listened the term Mini-Mid Rise? This is a very popular architecture in Europe in cities like Paris or Amsterdam. They are usually used for almost everything, from office to residential apartment. In Toronto the narrower 20 meters wide streets in downtown, generally, they ar mid-rise is 5 or 6 stories high.

Smart Density

 On this project presenting a creative solution that might help Toronto increase density and population in its main streets the team of Smart Density and winners of the Shift Challenge Naama Blonder, Misha Bereznyak, Architects from Smart Density Igor Samardzic the Urban Planner Sibylla Cong the Architectural Designer.  Are the heads and brains of this project. In an interview for Ontario Association of Architects that the mini mid-rise project Naama Blonder talked about some benefits Toronto and Citizens could have with this project “Will allow our main streets to intensify which also absolutely the right place for Toronto to grow, because those main streets are close to transit public amenities, they have the character that all of us want to live near by.”

It certainly, has its advantages. Blonder also says that it could be a good option for those people who are looking for something economical and practical, but she doesn’t discard that families could live there.

“And also allows even moms and pups to develop and without the expensive capital as you would use usually to require a really large building.”

In their site   they have a tutorial explaining how this calculator is useful and how you can take advantage of it.

It is a matter of time to witness what this project can do for de Toronto’s growth and density, but what it is certain is that this is a fresh and innovated idea.
