The Winter Wonderland Just Got a Little Too Messy Amidst the Snow blizzard!

On 16 January, 2022 the Greater Toronto area along with many other parts of Southern Ontario saw a snow storm which came after a winter storm warning issued by the department of  ‘Environment and Climate Change in Canada.’ Parts of Southern Ontario like Ottawa were expected to see 40-60 cm’s of snow however the residents of the Greater Toronto Area also woke up to 40 cm’s of snow which resulted in Highway Closures and Accidents due to the extreme weather. Residents across the city were seen shovelling inches of snow from the driveways and brushing it off from their cars. Cassandra B. , A resident of Brampton told Say@News that it took her and her husband two hours to shovel the snow of their driveway ” I haven’t seen snow like this ever since we moved from Newfoundland and we weren’t prepared for this much snow so we have been manually shovelling it for past two hours and still doesn’t seem to be enough.”

Not just this the Toronto Police have also closed all ramps of the Gardiner expressway and DVP to help move the vehicles and people stuck on the highway’s for hours. Premiere Ford, was also seen helping dig out stranded motorists across Toronto. Residents of the city have also been sharing selfies with him as he is offering to drop them in his pickup truck. The impact of the storm left people with or without snow tires stuck and helpless on the Gardiner expressway. A range of photos and videos of the entire GTA and it’s highways  covered with snow were shared by the residents on twitter and Instagram.

 

The delivery services across the city were also suspended as a result of the snow blizzard, from Uber and Skip the dish to Amazon and Door dash none of the delivery services were working. restaurants however were offering in store pick-up services for their customers. Alex Borden, who is a manager at a Boston pizza location in Brampton told Say@news about how the Storm has resulted in the restaurant facing staff shortages, ” seven of our employees called out today because of the bad weather, some were not able to move their cars out of their driveways even, as a result it’s only four of us working in the restaurant today.”

Uber Drivers are also frustrated with the long hours it has been taking for them to commute on the highways. Ekasdeep Kalra, A driver who works with Uber eats explain his frustration as it took him 2 hours to get back to Brampton from Toronto due to the conditions on highways and several road closures. ” the 401 is packed with cars and trucks and the lanes are not moving, I was coming back from downtown Toronto and it usually takes me 45 minutes but today it took me over two hours.” The affect of the Winter storm has indeed left the residents across the city frustrated and troubled but this wouldn’t last long as the snow storm alert is set to end by evening.
