Where is everything inside Seneca@York’s SEQ building?

I started my first semester at Seneca College in the fall semester of 2021, which feels like a decade away when it hasn’t even been half that amount of time. I went on to complete my radio broadcasting diploma and am now in my third semester of journalism at the Seneca York campus. I’ve learned in these past three years that I don’t know where anything is. Even now, I sometimes forget that the Seneca Student Federation has a desk next to the hive.

So let’s run through some of what Seneca’s York campus provides so that you too can get around the building and find where you need to go.

In the Stephen E. Quinlan (SEQ) building, when enter from the south side (the front entrance) you are immediately greeted by two desks, the help desk and the service hub. The help desk is for general information about the building and its services, like helping to find your classroom. While service hub can help you with technical problems that don’t require the IT desk, which we’ll get to after. This includes figuring out your schedule when something goes wrong, how to access online classes and more general information about Seneca’s services.

Once you’re done you can take a left and soon find yourself outside the library, which provides loads of space to study, whether you need a computer or a private group study room. But just down the stairs towards the computers, you’ll find the IT desk and its helpers. Some students may never even come directly to the desk in person since the IT desk has an email that they respond to pretty quickly in my experience. The email address for the IT desk is servicedesk@senecapolytechnic.ca. The service desk also has an email: theservicehub@senecapolytechnic.ca, though you may want to do it in person to show them your problem.

Now let’s talk about the two desks that are on the north side entrance to the SEQ building. On the other side of the cafeteria from the entrance you’ll find the campus store, it’s like a convince store but for school supplies and snacks. When I’ve had longer school days, the campus store comes in clutch for such snacks. But next to the store is the one card room.

The Seneca One card is what you use to book out equipment, it’s attached to your meal plan(if you have one) and a whole other assortment of important Seneca-related services. If you have a physical card with the bar code then your problems should be pretty small besides losing it. But in my experience, the Seneca one-card app has been annoying to use and get working from time to time. So the One card room is not only needed but greatly appreciated.

Lastly, above the cafeteria and next to the hive(a lounge area with seating space, video games and food/special events) is the Seneca Student Federation desk. The SSF handles a lot of stuff which you can check out at the SSF Website, but they also give out board games, just remember to return them.

With all that information out of the way, have a wonderful week Seneca.
