Unifor President Jerry Dias is meeting with the UAW, United Autoworkers, today to plan the strategy to fight GM’s planed closure.

With General Motors planning to shut down its plant in Oshawa by the end of 2019, and leaving more than 2,500 people out of work, Dias stated that ” GM is gonna have to understand that we’re not going to take it sitting down without any fight”, and also said that this is a ” bastard shame” because GM decision to bring jobs to Mexico, they can absolutely make the same decision to bring the jobs back because GM only paid $2 an hour which make they never afford to buy the car that they built.

Yesterday, the labour leader met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Dias is calling on Canada and the United States to impose steep new tariffs on any vehicles GM might try to export from its plants in Mexico.
