Summer 2025 is on its way, and with that comes one of the biggest questions. What movies can audiences look forward to the most in theatres? The summer movie season is one of the most popular times to go to the movies. The only other time of year that rivals it is the Christmas season in December. What better way to get excited, than by looking at the Top 10 biggest movies to come this summer. These are in order of release date.
1) Thunderbolts: May 2nd
After a one year hiatus, Marvel is back to claim the opening weekend of May. From 2007-2023 a Marvel Studios, or Marvel affiliated movie either from Sony or Fox has opened. Deadpool and Wolverine was set to take the slot last year. Unfortunately, due to the actors and writers strikes that took place while the movie was shooting, it was pushed to the end of July. Judging by the fact that each movie has had almost a completely different cast, you can guess how successful each set of characters have been in accomplishing this. Audiences felt far more compelled to check out those two movies than to see Tom Cruises newest flick. This new movie is set to open alongside Lilo and Stitch Memorial Day Weekend. One can only hope there’s room for both movies to soar at the box office.
4) Lilo and Stitch: May 23rd

This is do the box office failure of the recent Snow White remake.

The Jurassic World franchise is back. This time with Scarlett Johansson leading the newest instalment. The last three movies have grossed over a billion at the box office. Although the last one received terrible reactions from critics and audiences. Time will tell if this new direction for the franchise will be able to bring the franchise back to it’s former glory. One thing for sure is it’s bound to be a box office success. Especially since it’s opening at the beginning of July. Which is a perfect release date for a summer blockbuster movie.

What Are Students On Campus Most Excited For?
All of these releases sound very promising. It will be very interesting to see which ones audiences show up to in theatres though. Audiences today are much more likely to wait for PVOD, or streaming on many movies. Vincent Burns from Seneca @York said he plans to see all the movies listed. Burns said “All of these movies are one hundred percent deserving of theatrical viewing”. However another person interviewed on campus didn’t share Burns opinion.
Katy Collins said “There are some that are mandatory like the Marvel movies, Superman, and Jurassic. One other being the new I know What You Did Last Summer. Other than that though, everything else I will watch, but I’m not paying to see that in the theatres”. Collins elaborated on this by saying “Everything else I’m happy to wait for streaming. For instance Freakier Friday looks fun, but it seems better suited for streaming for me”.
Only time will tell regarding how all these movies perform at the box office this summer.
