Three Toronto friends finally hit the jackpot after playing Lotto 6/49 for over 16 years
In 2005, Kenneth Nitsotolis, Dino Martino, and Bill Tepelenas began their tradition of playing Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49. Over a decade and a half later, the group hit the September 22 Lotto 6/49 jackpot of $21,185,218.10.
Nitsotolis said he woke up one day and simply checked his email. “I opened the email and confetti appeared on the screen! I rubbed my eyes and thought we won $21,000, but there were too many numbers.”
He then called Martino and Tepelenas to share the exciting news. He said that they didn’t believe him at first, so Nitsotolis took a picture of the computer screen and sent it to them.
According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, players have won over $13.5 billion in the last 39 years. The OLG was created in 1975 and, less than a decade later, reached its milestone paying out $1 billion in winnings.
Ontario’s new millionaires, Nitsotolis, Martino, and Tepelenas, purchased their winning ticket online. The three good friends have said they do not know what their plans are on spending the money as of yet. The only plans they do have confirmed is that the total prize money will be split equally, leaving approximately $7,061,739.37 for each individual.
