Seneca went into Saturday’s game against the Loyola Lancers looking for its fourteenth victory of the season. Seneca was the first to serve  and they got the first points. The Lancers tied the game but the Sting was looking strong in the early parts of the game being the better team for most of the first half having an 11-5 lead in the first set. The Sting maintained control unlike the game against the Durham Lords where they struggled early. The Sting won the first set easily 25-15 with Mikyla Patras taking charge with 11 of the teams points for the Sting.

The second set began and the Lancers took control early in the second set 4-2 but the sting would comeback to tie the game and even take the lead 13-8. Then the Lancers took a timeout and the Lancers was much better coming out of the timeout making the game closer 13-10 but the Lancers would lose the second set 24-12. 2-0 set lead for the sting only one more set win for the victory.

The third set began like the second as the Sting would take the first point but the Lancers took the second point. The Lancers looked like the better team having a lead of 7-5. The Sting would gain some momentum off Loyalist errors and gain a lead of 14-9 then improving to 24-15 needing one more point for the victory. The Sting would get that point winning the game becoming the second team to get the 14th win of the season.

Seneca coach Saba Seda said his team played well, but he cautions about getting over confident.

“They did well. You don’t want to take anything from a sweep, but we could always be better. There’s always things to work on and I think offensively we need to be more efficient and I thought we could’ve been at 50 to 60 percent and we were at 30-40 offensive efficiency.”

The Sting women’s volleyball team is now 14-0 atop the East division.  Humber’s women’s volleyball team is in first in the West division at 15-0.  But the two teams will not meet up during the regular season.

The Sting travel to Ottawa on Friday to take on fourth place Algonquin with its 10-4 record.
