The new stay-at-home order is stricter than the current lockdown.

After Ontario announced the new COVID-19 lockdown rules, everyone, from the bank teller to the Mayor of Toronto said they’re confusing.

According to Premier Doug Ford’s office, the new rules are simple. “Just stay home”.

The new order applies to the whole province, including Toronto and Ottawa.

All non-essential retail stores and in-person dining have been shut down since Christmas day, and in Toronto, since the end of November.

The government has also introduced new enforcement measures to ensure that the enhanced public health restrictions fall into order.

Ford says that the Ontario Provincial Police, local police forces, bylaw officers, and provincial workplace inspectors, will have the authority to issue to tickets to individuals found in contravention with the stay-at-home order or mask covering guidelines.

Schools in Ontario will not resume in-person learning until at least February 10th but that does not include some post-secondary schools such as Seneca College.

Seneca Colleges President David Agnew has emailed students on some changes taking effect on the new lockdown rules.

“Several measures are in force at Seneca’s campuses to maintain strict health and safety protocols.” said Agnew and stated the following rules

Only students and employees with in-person labs or classes are permitted on campus other than a limited number of essential employees.

Everyone coming on campus is actively screened on a daily basis.

Face coverings are required throughout the campus along with physical distancing.

Enhanced cleaning protocols are in place.

Libraries, study spaces, cafeterias and other sitting areas remain closed.

All services are being delivered virtually.

“We have been told that it may be months before vaccination is generally available, and these measures are necessary in the meantime to control the virus.” Said Agnew.

Seneca also offers students general information about how Seneca is responding to the pandemic that is available on their COVID-19 website that also includes links to mental health and counselling resources.
