Living Revolutionary

By: Jalen Rose

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, my life has turn upside down. It was only 4 months ago when life was perfectly normal until an unbearable news headline shocked towns, cities and countries around the world. Since March 13, life hasn’t been the same. I would have never thought in my lifetime to experience an event such as COVID-19. It seems like stuff you learn in history, the things you see in movies or news you hear across the world. The impact of COVID-19 sometimes seems mind-blogging to me on how a virus originated in China on the last day of 2019, ended up affecting life in Canada three months later. I mean dam. Now if you were to ask me a year ago on if a global pandemic would affect people’s livelihoods in 2020, I’d say you must be on drugs and that’s blasphemous.

From my March 13 till now, coping with COVID-19 hasn’t been easy but I have gotten somewhat used to it. From day to day, sunrise to sunset, I’ve always kept myself occupied. Creating either a schedule or simply doing whatever I desire. My days in quarantine would consist of working out, video games, reading, face timing, binge-watching and spending time with family. Self quarantining has also opened my mind to meditation and making music. My family has adapted to the virus but many of my family members still find it difficult to go outside without having their guard up on social distancing/staying six feet apart.

My biggest frustrations with COVID is…

  1. Self Isolation
  2. Boredom
  3. Strict safety precautions/measures when outside

These three points are my biggest frustrations because it restricts social interaction, playing sports, hanging out with friends and spending time with loved ones. Some tips I have learned over the past couple of months is taking time to enjoy life even thorough these unpredicted times. Activities like finishing a book, catching up on a movie, learning a new skill, gaining a new hobby or anything to prevent boredom.

Overall, quarantine has bought its ups and downs but if you make the most out of it, you might just be surprised as to how much fun you could have, the knowledge you can obtain and how much you can grow as a person. Helping you in becoming the best version of yourself not just now but also in the future.
