Housing crisis in Canada.

Families consider downsizing to Townhomes

The authorities of Canada stated that the immigration will be lowered because the population has risen sharply in the recent past. Immigration minister Mark Milar pointed out that under his plan that have been approved by the Canadian government, permanent residence will be cut down to 500 000 from 365000 in 2026. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has presented some ideas for a new system overhaul to address concerns over the Liberal government’s increases to immigration nucleus and the effects they think population expansion would have in the nation’s housing stock and the ability for people to get homes. The federal government estimates that the population is going to be shrinking at 0.2% in 2025 and 2026, and then grow at 0.8% in 2027. According to data released yesterday by Statistics Canada, the population as of July 1 was 3 per cent higher than a year earlier. The yearly population growth rate was less than 1.5 percent between the years 1998 and 2018. Canadian Press has revealed that federal civil workers wrote to the government back two years ago stating that large scale immigration could pose a threat to housing affordability and services. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke at the start of Monday’s debate noting that the government must continue to ensure Canadians have confidence in the immigration system while noting that Canadians are rightfully proud of the immigration system. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre accused the government of ‘broking’ the immigration system, saying that immigration levels should be tied to the number of new housing starts. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said the immigration plan cutbacks show Trudeau “messed up” and that the proposal does not deal with the reasons why. The Liberals are turning immigrants into scapegoats because this approach will help them appeal to a greater number of voters. Even the ex US President Donald Trump also reacted to the proposed reforms noting that only ‘stupid’ allows people to cross into Canada easily.
