Climate activists in three European countries blockaded Amazon warehouses on Friday in an effort to pressure the e-commerce giant to improve working conditions and end business practices that hurts environment.

In the United Kingdom, the activists targeted 13 Amazon fulfillment centers, aiming to disrupt 50 per cent of the company’s Black Friday sales.

At least 13 people were arrested at three of the UK’s locations, some held on suspicion of aggravated trespass or public nuisance, police forces said.

Similar protests were staged in Germany and Netherlands on one of the busiest sales days for the corporation.

Protesters chose Amazon’s facility at Amsterdam’s Schipol airport and Amazon facility at Amsterdam’s Schipol airport and the companies warehouse in the German town of Bad Hersfeld.

Up on request, in an effort to address the protests Amazon commented that the company takes its responsibilities “very seriously.”

A number of activist groups across the United States and around the world are organizing a day of strikes and global protests to demand Amazon for providing better working conditions, to commit to operate in sustainable ways and pay its fair share of taxes.
