Toronto never fails to be busy with construction, and this has become a big part of life in the city. It’s all around you: high-rise buildings, constant road construction, and new transit projects. The Eglinton Crosstown LRT is a big source of anxiety for residents. This transit line began construction back in 2011 and was supposed to open in 2020, but it is still not finished. The delays are causing major traffic problems, making it harder for people to get around.
In addition to the LRT delays, there are ongoing issues with the subway system. Over the years, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has experienced several delays and breakdowns in service. Many commuters get annoyed by higher wait times and unexpected closures caused by maintenance work, old infrastructure, and the need for improvements. In addition of making travelling more difficult, these delays increase traffic since more people drive instead of using public transportation.
As Toronto grows quickly, there is an increasing need for more housing, which has led to many new condo developments. Even though more housing alternatives are a positive thing, many of these new apartments and flats are expensive. This indicates that plenty of citizens are having difficulty finding affordable housing. Families and individuals are finding it difficult staying in the city because of the growing cost of living, particularly when income not always keeping up with these rising charges.
The ongoing construction and street closures that go hand in hand with these housing developments are making life even more stressful. There is a significant increase in traffic congestion, especially during rush hour. There are typically long delays for drivers and passengers of public transportation as a result of construction. This may be quite difficult for everyone attempting to go through their day since it causes even simple trips to take much longer.
While these construction projects promise to improve the city in the long run, the reality for many people living in Toronto right now is filled with challenges. The everyday routine includes the sounds of construction sites, dust in the air, and closed highways. It can feel overwhelming to deal with all these issues on top of the already busy life in a big city. Many residents are curious as to when this development will be finished and whether the changes will truly have an impact on their day-to-day lives.
For now, it looks like Toronto is going to continue to be a city under construction. It is believed that these changes would eventually lead to a better city with affordable housing and better public transportation. However, until then, people have to deal with the daily difficulties of living in a city that is changing quickly.
