The History and Origins of Gambling

Where does it all start? It is a key question some may ask as it seems that gambling has been around for quite some time. It is believed that gambling has been known to existence since the preliminary stages of human existence. Some might agree that gambling has always been a thing due to the nature of life and that everything we do daily is a gamble. In Ancient China it is believed to exist from 2300BCE and making its way right through the streets of Ancient Rome. With that and gambling being around since preliminary human existence, it can be understood why everyone is involved in some sort of gambling, lottery, casino and online. The only catch is if you can manage it effectively and not go overboard and find yourself stuck in a hole. A simple $2 lottery ticket can win you millions and the dream of not having to work again can be very intriguing, but the odds are stacked against you. Some take it further developing systems in casinos to maximize profits on table games and even some major slot machines. Walk in with a few thousand and try to win thirty percent daily or weekly. Gambling can be fun, and it can be dangerous. If not managed, it can be. Over time it has been recorded that illegal operations usually attract individuals that cannot control their gambling addictions, or sometimes major gambling sharks that play in illegal rings because they want to remain anonymous and stay very low-key.

The revenue is astronomical, it’s been recorded that, “The average Canadian spends $6.75 per month on gaming and gambling. 63% of men and 57% of women report they spend some money on gambling every month. Ontario reported gambling revenues of $1.4 billion between April 2022 and March 2023.” Record numbers make everyone want their share no matter which way it is done, Illegal or Legal. The ultimatum is gambling can be fun, just how its managed, gambling has been around for as early as humans have existed and will not be going away anytime soon. How much money can be won is unknown but how much can be lost can be detrimental for some, the belief is to gamble responsibly.
