An 18-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving following a collision involving Ontario Premier Doug Ford. Ford was not hurt in the accident but the driver and passenger in the other vehicle involved were injured.

“We were just driving straight and the next thing you know we got hammered, just hammered,” Ford said. “I’m Ok, this head is like limestone. It’s hard as a rock,” he joked.

The accident happened on Highway 401 near Brock Rd in Pickering on Wednesday as the premier was returning from a news conference at the Darlington Nuclear Plant. Ford was not driving at the time.  His vehicle was being operated by a driver from OPP Protective Services Section.

SAY News Reporter, Michael Galvez went out to ask Seneca at York students if they could picture being in an accident involving someone with that kind of power.

“I would treat the situation as it’s a normal person because what’s the difference? They’re a human, I’m a human, everyone makes mistakes,” one said.

“I’d be scared if I got into a car accident with anybody. But with someone who’s got a lot of power, I don’t know how they would react,” another said.

Going back to Ford’s crash, he was surprised to see the vehicle driving on the wrong side of the highway.

“He was out of commission,” Ford said. “It was bad. I just pray he’s Ok.”

The accused is schedule to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Oshawa on February 20th.
