The Seneca Sting men’s basketball team fell to crosstown rival, the Centennial Colts, 85-70 in their final regular season home game before the playoffs. The Colts were 10-6 before this game and were in 6th place, two points behind the Sting. The Sting were in third with a record of 11-5.
The Sting had a lot of trouble maintaining possession of the basketball, with turnovers being a major factor in this game. The Sting had 13 turnovers to the Colt’s 8. But that wasn’t the only stat that the Sting struggled with in the game. It was also their free throw percentage. Seneca made 13-29 for a rate of 44.9%. Meanwhile, Centennial Colts, made 15 out of 20 for a rate of 75%. The leading scorer of the Sting was Ryan Brooks with 18 of the Sting’s points. The leading scorer for the Centennial Colts was Samuel Wong with 23 points.
I spoke to the coach, Jay McNeilly, after the game and he had this to say about the team’s performance, “It’s a wake-up call after the week we had off a 9-game winning streak but after this game with the way we played it makes us want to strap on our boots and get ready for the last game on Friday.”
Coach McNeilly spoke about their next game against Fleming College, saying “We’re not looking past them they’re a good team and no matter what the record says we got to be prepared for them”
The next game for the Sting is on Friday against the Fleming Phoenix in Peterborough at 7:00 p.m.
