Troy Dennis Ledrew, a 29-year-old man, is facing multiple serious charges after an alleged two-day spree of attempted carjackings and shootings in Toronto and Mississauga. Police claim Ledrew’s violent actions began on Tuesday morning, November 26, 2024, when he allegedly shot at more than ten vehicles along Highway 401 near Mississauga. While no one was seriously injured during these shootings, the situation quickly got out of hand.

Attempted carjacking

The following evening, on Wednesday, police say a man went on a rampage in Toronto's east end. Around 7:30 p.m. they say he came towards a car stopped at a red light near Dundas Street East and River Street. Police say the man tried to open the car door and shot the driver, who was left with life-threatening injuries. According to police, after stealing the car, he continued seeking other drivers, firing shots at one vehicle but narrowly missing. He tried to carjack a few more vehicles but was unsuccessful until he reached a fifth car. Here, police claim he pointed a gun at the driver, forcing them out of the vehicle.

Police say the man crashed the stolen vehicle close to Lake Shore Boulevard and Carlaw Avenue as the chase went on. Then, before the police arrived, he tried to carjack another vehicle, this time in a nearby parking lot. Officers quickly apprehended him after a brief foot chase.   A handgun was found at the scene.

Ledrew faces 27 charges, including aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm, and attempted murder. He was previously charged with fraud, robbery, and probation violation and was already out on bail. His arrest has caused outrage, with many, including Premier Doug Ford, questioning why someone who has such a long criminal history was released.
