Over the course of the last six years, car theft has become a huge problem in Canada. The problem continues to get worse as carjackings have become a common place in many canadian cities. This week police have already received 68 reports of cars being stolen in the GTA. These included areas such as Casa Loma, Danforth, Yonge and Eglinton and Trinity Bellwoods.

A study written by the Equite Association in 2022 stated the cars that were most in demand for auto theft, with Honda CR-V's continuing to be the top rated choice for auto theft in Canada as a whole. Another popular car that is popular amongst carjackings are Lexus RX's. Both of which are SUV's and offer convenience that organized crime groups crave.
According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, claims for auto theft prices have increased within the record $1.5 billion dollars within 2023. This jump in claims puts a strain on law enforcement and the judicial system as a whole. These increased insurance claims has also caused a huge spike in insurance premiums for Canadian drivers.
Canadians are looking for ways to protect their vehicles from theft. Some Canadians are upgrading their home and car security systems. While other Canadians are using locking devices like The Club - a locking bar that attaches to steering wheels.
Canada remains a hotbed for car theft and now carjackings too. While politicians look to tighten and change laws to fight car theft, police often remain helpless in their pursuit of justice. In the meantime many Canadians feel helpless against the brazen thefts happening across the nation.
