It’s exam season and Ryerson students got a treat from Ben and Jerry’s. Every year the ice cream company celebrates its annual free cone day. This is the second year in a row that they’ve come to Ryerson.

We spoke to some Ryerson students who are currently going through exams and they said that this was a stress reliever. One students taking nursing she said “with all the stress that comes with exams, taking my mind off of it to enjoy some free ice cream is well needed”. The fact that free cone day is around the same time as exams comes in handy for plenty of students.

Canada was the first country outside of the United States to celebrate free cone day.

Ben and Gerry’s started in 1978 when two guys decided to build a homemade ice cream business that would soon go worldwide. Their first shop started in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont. The following year is when they held their first ever free cone day as a way to say thank you to the customers that made their first year of business a success. As more news got out about Ben & Jerry they opened another scoop shop in Shelburne, Vermont in 1981.
