Fourth MCU Spiderman Movie Title Revealed

By Jordan Taylor

After much anticipation, and speculation, the time is finally here. We finally now know the name of the next Spider-man movie. Announced at Cinema Con the title has been revealed to be Spider-man Brand New Day. The movie will hit theatres July 31st, 2026. Tom Holland and Zendaya will return, while Sadie Sink will join the cast. It is unknown who she will be playing. Although many people speculate she’s either playing Mary Jane Watson, or Jean Grey. Much of the plot is being kept secret. Although due to Holland not listed in Avengers Doomsday, it is speculated that this movie will take place at the same time as that movie. It would make sense, as the previous Spiderman movie left a very clear path for Hollands character. It’s been rumoured this movie will be a multiverse movie that will feature the return of Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield. This would further add to the rumours of it taking place simultaneously with the next Avengers movie. Avengers Doomsday opens May of 2026. That’s just two months before the release date of this new Spider-Man movie.

The previous Spiderman movie Spiderman No Way Home broke records back in 2021. The film featured a crossover between Holland, Maguire, and Garfield. However Garfield and Maguire weren’t featured in the movie until the third act. That’s what that movie so good. It was more focused on being a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie than a crossover. Spider-Man No Way Home put story, over nostalgia. It still had the perfect blend of nostalgia though. Former actors who played villains such as Alfred Molina, and Willem Dafoe returned in this movie in their iconic roles. It didn’t end there either, as Jamie Fox, Rhys Ifans, and Thomas Hayden Church also reprised their roles as their iconic roles.

It was truly a rouges gallery of Spider-Man villains and nostalgia. It became the first film during Covid to make a billion. The film grossed $1.921 billion worldwide. Keep in mind the movie didn’t even receive a theatrical release in China. Hollywood usually heavily relies on Blockbuster movie releases in China to reach a billion. Spider-man No Way Home however didn’t need China to reach that milestone. Domestically the film grossed over $800 million, while in worldwide, the movie made $1.910 billion. What made this even more impressive was that this came out during the pandemic. There was new variant of Covid called Omicron which was spreading at that time. Still audiences were willing to take the risk, as many payed to see the movie multiple times in theatres.

No Way Home Images Reveal Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield's Return

Spiderman No Way Home truly was an event. It was also released at Christmas of that year, so it was the definitive movie for the Holiday season. There was a novelty behind the theatrical experience of it. Many people have fond memories of the nostalgia of seeing that movie. The experience of watching a sold out screening with an audience made it such an event. The experience of seeing former characters from previous Spiderman entry appear on screen. Getting to see and hear an audiences reaction to it made it all the more special. When it regards to the next entry Spiderman Brand New Day, the idea of now having a movie featuring all 3 former Spiderman makes sense. After all sequels are supposed to build on the previous entry and go bigger. This movie being released between the two part Avengers movie also makes sense.

Avengers Doomsday hits theatres May of 2026, And Avengers Secret Wars hits theatres May of 2027. If the next Spiderman takes place between Doomsday, there’s a good chance all 3 Spiderman will be in Secret Wars. The Secret Wars comic book has had multiple renditions over the years. One thing that’s remained the same as it’s always been a multiversal crossover between superhereos. Think the superheroes from the MCU crossing over with the Fox X-Men cast. As a matter of fact, it’s been confirmed that the X-Men cast from the 2000’s fox movies will return. To put that in perspective for those who don’t follow the MCU regularly, there’s a good chance we’ll see Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman on screen with Hugh Jackmans Wolverine.

Andrew Garfield on the 'brotherhood' of filming Spider-Man: No Way Home

Something that will be very interesting to see is how secretive Marvel keeps the casting and plot leaks for these movies. When Spiderman No Way Home came out, it was made during the pandemic. Meaning many people working on the movie worked on it from h0me. This led to some taking pictures of the film and posting it online. Months before the film was released, massive plot details, and stills from the movie were easy to find online. It was just one Google search away. This led to Sony and Marvel to then debunk the leaks as fake. They even went as far as editing certain characters out of the trailers. Many fans speculated this was the case. For instance, it was never confirmed if Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield would be returning for the movie. Despite a picture of them from the movie being leaked online. Sony and Marvel even allegedly fought over how to handle the leaks. Sony allegedly wanted to feature Maguire and Garfield in the promotions, while Marvel allegedly wanted to hide them. Hiding the leaks turned out to be the best idea. It benefited the box office performance of the movie. It created this sense of urgency for audiences to pay to see the movie and see if the leaks were true.

Review: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” Is a Formulaic Corporate Slog | The New Yorker

However it’s important to note this has also backfired on Marvel before. In May 2022, the Doctor Strange sequel being the follow up to No Way Home suffered immensely for this. There were many rumours for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse Of Madness that turned out to not be true. Audiences were expecting an experience very much akin to that Spiderman movie. What they instead got was a movie where majority of the rumours and leaks they heard were false. So it can really work both ways. It can enhance the excitement for the movie. However if those rumoured leaks are not true, it can leave audiences feeling very disappointed. Marvel decided to announce that the Fox X-Men were in the next Avengers movie. Marvel Studios clearly wants audiences to know what to expect. Although they have said there will be some surprise appearances.
