Meet Caroline Folk, an entrepreneur with a unique career path. Folk is a two-time Seneca graduate with a diploma in Library & Information Technician and another in Teaching English as a Second Language. She then transitioned to a full-time Seneca employee, where she works at the York Campus as a library technician and HELIX student. Meanwhile, she carries a passion for real estate. She has owned several condos throughout her life and is currently closing in on a deal to purchase her fourth condo. Her story is one of motivation, passion, and dedication that shows that you are able to use a hobby to help others.

"I can’t believe there isn’t something like this already," Folk says when reflecting on the biggest surprise creating the real estate website. She decided to create the website after having difficulty finding the right place in the condo-choosing process. She says when it comes to her next condo purchase, she has found it very difficult to navigate the process, only using information from her time in the building while she lived their with her mother. As a result, she decided to begin the website to prevent others from facing the same issue. The platform allows users to easily browse detailed listings, access expert advice, and filter options to find their ideal home. Folk's vision is to make the condo-buying process easy, efficient, and enjoyable for everyone. She aims at also helping the younger generation to find a more accessible building with amenities that benefit them, such as a pool, gym, or nearby libraries.

When it comes to current real estate websites such as multiple listing service, Folk describes them as complicated, often leaving out many important details that can prevent those from making the proper choice. She says they also omit rules and regulations so people move in and break the rules and regulations, like having large dogs when only small dogs are allowed. Therefore, this website will allow users to get a realistic sense of the condo's vibe, accessibility and pet friendliness in condos

While the website is still in the early stages of development, Folk is working hard to ensure the site transitions from a dream to a reality. It is currently in the database stage, gathering insight from potential users on how to create the best possible site. Folk has created a survey to listen to the opinions of people; once it hits 500 completed surveys, she plans on turning the database into a website.

The former Seneca graduate has learned valuable lessons along her journey and aims to fulfill her long-term goals of helping the future generation purchase their ideal condo. She is hoping for word to spread about her website and that as many people use the website as possible. Then, aiming at making her way up the real estate business, working alongside firms or the multiple listing service to build the site and link it with properties for sale!

Folk's journey as an entrepreneur hasn't always been smooth sailing, and she says at many times it has been disappointing and chaotic. However, she provides an example of how hard work, determination, and the right attitude can help with overcoming many challenges with building a website. While her journey is just starting, she hopes it can be a learning lesson for future generations, not just in the real estate industry but in any element of life.

For those looking to help Folk in her journey, you can fill out her Condo chooser survey  and help her get to the 500 completed surveys needed to start the website development.

Who knows, your next condo purchase could be from her website!
