Canada’s main forwards, Alphonso Davies, Tajon Buchanan, and Johnathan David gave Belgium’s backline tremendous trouble throughout the first half. On the eight-minute mark, Canada was awarded a penalty but Alphonso Davie’s shot was saved by the 6’5 Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.

Canada had many chances but could not find their scoring boots in front of the net. Also, Canada utilized a high line so that more of their players could get on Belgium’s side of the field. However, this left their backline exposed to long balls and counterattacks. Belgium took advantage of this. Belgium’s Michy Batshuayi was able to find the back of the net just before halftime in the forty-fourth minute putting the score 1-0.

As a result of this loss, Canada is fourth in their group and will hope to make a turnaround against Croatia on Sunday, November 27 at 11 A.M. E.T.
