Ahmed Chams plays video games, goes to the gym, and drives an Uber like many millennials but dreams of unpacking the world, one story at a time. Chams, the son of Lebanese immigrants, was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on January 21, 1990. “Halifax was beautiful,” said Chams. ” I loved visiting with family and cousins. People are very friendly.”

Nova Scotia is also known as Canada’s Ocean Playground but that’s not what attracted Chams’ grandfather, Ali Chams, to the country. Pier 21, a known port of entry, was a way to a better life for the Chams family. “My grandfather worked as a door-to-door salesman for many years,” said Ahmed. “He brought his wife and kids over after a few years and we settled in Nova Scotia.”

Eventually Ahmed’s parents relocated to London, Ontario and Chams completed his degree in Political Science and Sociology. After a break-in to his car and no luck with jobs, Ahmed took an Uber and thought he should drive to make ends meet.  The experience made Ahmed hear a lot of different types of stories. These stories ignited his passion for social justice and storytelling and he decided to pursue Multiplatform Journalism at Seneca College. “(I want)… to inspire people and that’s what I want to do and those are my dreams.” says Chams.
