Tough loss last night for the Seneca Sting Woman’s team  losing to the Durham Lords, 79-61. This game leaves the team with a record of 0-3 to start off the season.  Tianna Leveridge, Shakiya Stephens, and Katrina Martin were the only players to shoot over a 50% field goal for Seneca. In the first quarter,  the Lords picked up the pace and capitalized on fast breakouts. The Sting turned the ball over eight times in the first quarter with four of those being stolen by the opposition, which made it harder for the Sting to push the ball up the court on transitions. The second quarter was uneventful as both teams struggled to finish at the rim, scoring 15 points for each team in the quarter.  The Colts defence was tight in the quarter taking away another three steals in the 2nd. The 3rd quarter was more of the same for the Sting as they struggled to put the ball in the basket due to the Lord’s aggressive defence. The 3rd quarter was more of the same, but the Lords stepped it up even more with their offence as Lord’s star Brianna Morrison scored 9 out of her 21 total game points in the 3rd. In the 4th quarter both teams started to slow down, with star players playing almost 40 minutes, the subs came on early. Seneca ended up outscoring the Lords in the 4th quarter by 16 to 11, but it was not enough. The star player of the game goes to Lord’s plater Brianna Morrison, who scored 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Tianna Leveridge was consistent thought the game for the Sting and scored 29% of the team’s total points.  The Sting will try to bounce back next game when they play the Algonquin College on February 25th at 3 pm.
