2019 SHI Hockey Tournament

By Anthony Gatt

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the SHI (Special Hockey International) Tournament, which brings teams from around the world together to compete in the name of fun.

The Grandravine Tornadoes hosted the event this year.  Teams from all across Canada, U.S., England and Ireland traveled to take part in the festivities. A opening ceremony to introduce all the teams taking part, a meet and greet shortly after and banquet at the end of the tournament were all included.

Teams piled up in Scotiabank Pond from March 27th to March 30th to play four games each. There were no trophies,  the goal was not winning but participation. Players ranged from six to mid teens.

The games were non contact. This video showcases the players trying their best and parents showing their passion for the kids no different to any other parent attending their child’s hockey game.

For these kids this is their Olympics and even though no one is crowned “champion” or the “best” at the end all of it one message stays true which is they are all champions.
