What Will Kawhi Do?

by Ahmed Chams

Kawhi Leonard is the big name on the minds of all Toronto Raptors fans. Given that Leonard becomes a free agent at the end of the month, fans wonder if he will stick around for another season. At the parade there were chants of “Five more years”, a reference to reports that the Raptors had offered him a contract for $190 million over five years.  The fans clearly want the superstar to stay:

In January, it was reported that the 27 year old Leonard had purchased this $13.3 million home in Rancho Santa Fe near San Diego, where he went to college, prompting speculation that he would leave the Raptors for a Southern California area team.

The multimillion dollar home measures in at a massive 13,000 feet. It contains 7 bedroom suites, 10.5 bathrooms, 2 offices, a gourmet kitchen, a temperature controlled wine vault, a full work out facility, a home theatre, a multi-section pool, tennis court and fruit orchards.

This purchase was of course, many months prior to the championship win.

Back in May, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers had been in contact with Leonard. Another ESPN anchor, Adrian Wojnarowski‏, however mentioned on Tuesday that Leonard’s focus is not on the Lakers, but the Clippers instead.

“Kawhi Stay Fun Guy” sign can be seen from city streets

After the Raptor’s victory, Leonard’s sister, Miesha Slayton, went onto Instagram Live to celebrate the win. An unknown voice in the background can be heard saying ““They know darn well he ain’t going to be there next year”. Slayton later deleted the video and responded with: ““I got haters all around me. Yall hear someone HATIN in the background and run with it smh. Go Raptors!”

Leonard officially becomes a free agent on June 30. Time will tell whether or not the city of Toronto and the Raptors will be able to keep the MVP player for another season.
