Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and Seneca Polytechnic students are sharing their big plans for the romantic holiday.

“I might see what if my friends have anything to do and I might hangout with them, otherwise it might just be like a normal day for me,” said Victoria Lau, a Creative Advertising student.

Valentine’s Day is a day where people can express their love and affection to their loved ones by spending time with them and exchanging cards, chocolates, flowers, and gifts. The holiday doesn’t just apply to people in a romantic relationship, people can spend the day  expressing their love to their friends, relatives, and even their pets.

Like Lau, Ethelene Nossa, a Broadcast Television student, says that she also plans to spend the day chilling out with her friends.

“I’m just going to hangout with my girls and we are going to go out for dinner,” she said.

Nossa says that she is currently single and isn’t looking for a relationship at the moment. She also said that she is the type of person to wait for someone, instead of chasing after love.

Some people who are single and want to find that special someone just in time for Valentine’s Day, may turn to dating apps.

Finding love on dating apps

On the popular dating app, Tinder, the days between January 1 and February 13, is often referred to as a peak Swipe Season.

According to Tinder Newsroomduring the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day,  there is increased user activity on the app, where members will swipe an average of more than 100 more times per person than other similar length time periods. In the time of the Swipe Surge, users will also receive push-notifications with real-time updates, they will also have their profile appear in the front of the line and will be able to see which Tinder members are active.

There is often a debate of whether these dating apps are the best place for people to go and find their match.

“Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that, like maybe people just want to feel special at some point, like they just want to talk to someone and it motivates them to talk to others, then go ahead and use the app,” Nossa said.

She says that in her opinion, apps are not the best option and people should focus on themselves and the right person will come at the right time. She also said that if people are going to use the app to help them in getting into a relationship, they should be cautious.
