Hollywood legend Val Kilmer has passed away at the age of 65. Although he’s most known for his iconic roles in Top Gun, and Batman, he has plenty of other movies that made him a household name. Those include 1995’s Heat, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Willow, and Tomb Stone. Kilmer passed away Tuesday night in his home in Los Angeles.
Val Kilmer’s daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed he died from Pneumonia. Kilmer had other health conditions prior to his death. He was previously diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2014, but later recovered. He underwent various painful treatments including a tracheostomy.
Several directors in Hollywood have paid tribute to the late actors passing. Those include Ron Howard, Francis Ford Coppola, and Michael Mann.
Coppola described Kilmer as “a wonderful person to work with” while Howard praised his “awesome range as an actor”. Michael Mann wrote a tribute for Kilmer on social media saying “ While working with Val on Heat, I always marvelled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character”.
Several actors also honoured Kilmer’s passing. His former Batman Forever costar Jim Carrey said in a statement to USA Today “I’m remembering Val Kilmer today with great admiration from him as a man and as a generational talent who left us an enviable legacy of indelible acting performances. Carrey also said “His greatest artistic achievements were rivalled only by the grace and courage with which he endured his lifes most challenging moments. Wishing his family so much love.”
Nicolas Cage also paid tribute to Kilmer saying “I always like Val and am sad to hear of his passing. I thought he was a genius actor. I enjoyed working with him on Bad Lieutenant and I admired his commitment and sense of humour. He should have won the Oscar for Doors”.
Though Val Kilmer has passed, his legacy will live on. As his work made an impact on so many people and will only continue to do so.
