Lack of Technological Knowledge Puts New Students Under Stress
During orientation week, September 3rd, questions about how to make a schedule and pay for tuition were the most relevant at the Seneca York Campus, despite Service Hub having notified and guided new students in advance.
Elizabeth Fajardo, coordinator at SSF Seneca York Campus, highlights that many new students need to be aware of crucial academic information because they do not read their emails or attend the welcome day. This is mainly due to a lack of interest, responsibility, and knowledge of the technological use of the different platforms or internet services. The problem is that it is an added burden for students as they begin their studies.
“A lot of students don’t know that they must pay a tuition deposit, and this leads to they can’t enroll early and miss most of the essential classes, “said Elizabeth Fajardo, coordinator at SSF Seneca York Campus.

"I saw many people withdrawing from their programs because they didn’t meet the requirements, “said Fajardo.
International students who pay more money for their studies are a significant concern for the Service Hub team, as many are unaware of academic requirements and basic things taught before classes. Besides, some interviews conducted with international students revealed anxiety about finding work and adapting to a new country.
In general, although most students said they felt more comfortable, supported, and motivated in their academic journey after orientation week, the question remains about how to make new students more comfortable using technology to facilitate their start of classes successfully and enjoyable.
