Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh will be at the main gate of York U tomorrow (Friday March 16) at 3:30 pm. Singh and members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3903 (CUPE 3903) are going to participate in a rally supporting the university staff on strike. Contract faculty, teaching assistants, graduate assistants, and part-time librarians and archivists have been on strike since March 5th.
The strike started after university staff rejected York’s final offer. CUPE 3903 officials say that they are bargaining for job security for contract faculty, increased wages, better support for survivors of sexual violence, and employment equity, among other demands.
