Pedestrian Deaths in Toronto

By: Gabriella Iannello

A 60 year old man was crossing the street at Midland and Dorcot Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the driver remained with the victim and there is no word on whether charges will be laid.

Despite Toronto’s Vision Zero Plan pedestrian and cyclist deaths are still an issue in the city. According to statistics gathered by Toronto Star 45 pedestrian and cyclists have been killed so far this year. With only 27 days left in this year the total amount ties the number of pedestrian and cyclist deaths in the Star’s count of all 2017.

In addition to the Scarborough accident there have been three other pedestrian fatalities. Two women died in one accident in Mississauga yesterday and a man died in Brampton this morning.
