November Freeze

By Niza Nondo

It’s November, it’s fall, and it’s snowing. Torontonians woke up this morning to two centimetres of snow on their driveway. Torontonians should expect a low of -17 c this evening along with light showers of rain. But there are some ways you can show the weather who’s boss. You can take advantage of Cyber Monday and suit up in good quality winter clothes all at a discounted price. You can also upgrade your tires to special snow tires and drive through that sticky, slippery road.

But if history can teach us anything, most Torontonians aren’t ready for this months snowfall. Last November alone, police recorded a record of 63 accidents in a span of 12 hours. And in 2016, Stats Canada recorded over 160,315 accidents. More than a 1,000 people died that year. Despite all these numbers, Toronto Police officer Brett Moore said the weather isn’t to blame.

For students here at Seneca, being careful is something they hold at heart and don’t have to worry about. It’s their snowman building skills they are most concerned with.

Seneca’s winter crew built their first snowman of the season.

And got a special surprise from Kevin Frankish in the process.

The parade will start at 750 Bloor St.W  at 12:30 pm. There’ll be a record number of 32 floats. That’s an increase of three from last year. Among the new additions, a floater specially reserved for Olympic athletes like Korey Jarvis, Pierce LePage, Karen Cockburn, and Brittany MacLean.

The two-and-a-half-hour parade will end at St. Lawrence Market. Spectators should expect longer than usual rides on the TTC, and shilling weather of up to minus three.
