#RideThisWay1: The Great Subway vs Car Race

Seneca at York Journalism students headed on a journey to see what was better, Since the new line one extension opened in December of 2017, Students went to find out if a car is faster than the subway or vice versa.

For Team 1 we had the challenge to head to Dufferin Station and to see which form of transit reaches first. The Subway team was reporters Asante and Destiny who left York University Station at 4:14 pm. Our Driving reporters are Tristan, Anthony, and Emily with the drivers leaving just a minute after the subway team  from the Seneca @ York parking lot, but one team got there 10 minutes earlier

With our driver, they took Keele to get towards Lawrence, within a hour traffic started to pile up. Everything was smooth riding for our subway team but with our car team as soon as they were towards the intersection of Keele and Lawrence, rush hour began. We were stuck in traffic for a good 10 minutes, with the drivers being impatient a detour was made which lessened the commute to get on to Lawrence.

With the subway team, when they made their way towards St George station there was a 5-minute delay before leaving the platform. This is a usual thing that happens with the TTC Subways.

With the car having the advantage of the detour, they were about 10 minutes from the destination but got slowed down from a construction site.

but still made it at Dufferin Station at 4:52 pm,

With the subway team getting to Dufferin Station at 5:06 pm

With all our teammates together, our subway team admitted defeat, most of us decided that it would be easier to take the subway, because of the outcome, with a presto pass or a metro pass you are only paying one fare to travel to any of the destinations, only the driver said he’d stick to driving because he can get there at his own leisure and not have to be rushed by a subway and then are  delays that happen all the time, but looking at driving you’d have to be paying for gas, insurance, and it doesnt help the evniorment with those hidden green house gases, but with the subway you are saving the enivorment, saving money and sometimes the subway is a bit more convient when travling for far.  Check out our podcast about the Driving side of the #RideThisWay!
