Province Bans Cell Phones in Schools

Maria Lotzov is a grade 7 student in Sudbury who is never without her cell phone.    As of this September she won’t be allowed to bring it into class.  She says she does not mind at all that the provincial government is banning cell phones.

Angelina Verrelli is a grade 9 student and agrees that cell phones are the biggest distraction for students, but disagrees with banning them. “however, they can also be a really good tool for learning.”

The provincial government is banning cell phones in high schools and elementary schools across Ontario as of September 2019. Students will no longer be able to bring their cell phones to school.  The government says mobile devices are being banned in school because students do not pay enough attention in class.
