Holiday Shopping Tips and Tricks

This shopping season can be overwhelming and expensive but with some tips and tricks this year’s holiday shopping may be just a little lighter on your wallet. Here’s what some Seneca students have to say about this holiday shopping season.

“I buy my gifts on black Friday because it’s cheaper.”

“The events that are planed around the holidays, everyone is in a festive mood, so you would sort of feel bad especially around events like secret Santa where you know that other people might be getting something very nice for you so you, you don’t want to be that cheapo and not really invest into the holiday.”

Following a few of these tips and tricks my also help you save a couple bucks this shopping season:

1. Make a list of who you are shopping for and what you want to buy them to avoid over shopping.

2. Download coupon apps to compare deals and save on purchases.

3. Organize a Secret Santa to limit the amount of people you have to shop for this Christmas season.

4. Make your gifts this year for your loved ones instead of buying them

5. Share the cost of a gift with siblings or co-workers to save money

In 2017 according to Price Waterhouse Coopers Canadians each spent an average of a little over $1,500. The majority of Canadian dollars will go towards travel for the holidays and gifts. Price Waterhouse says the most popular presents are gift cards. The least likely gift that Canadians will give are home electronics. Over half of the shoppers this year are predicted to shop with local independent retailers. Amazon is the top choice for online shopping as 77% of Canadians say they will shop on the world’s largest online retailer.
