Seneca Students React to her Choice

I’ll be over here… contemplating Alessia Cara’s decision to leave social media.

The Brampton-born singer’s announcement came following her Grey Cup Halftime show performance on Sunday.

Online trolls turned to social media to criticize Cara’s appearance. The Grammy-winner posted screenshots on Monday of the comments and also turned to Instagram Live to comment on how she felt:

“When you say those things to somebody, even if you’re trolling or just trying to make a joke, it makes that person’s day that much harder — at least speaking for myself”

Seneca Students have mixed reactions about her choice.

A Pharmaceutical student agreed with Cara’s choice, saying that the decision will help her focus on herself and move away from the negativity.

Another Pharmaceutical student said that the negativity is expected when someone is in the limelight.

An Independent Music Production student said “Good for her” because he thinks that we all should be able to tune out the negative voices and away from online trolls.

Alessia Cara didn’t specify how long her break will be saying, “I need some time away from it directly, whether it’s a few days or a few weeks. Sometimes I think you need to step away from those things.”
